The Feloran Chronicles/Twilight Trust

Feloran

The one constant I run into when communicating with all the different artists and writers of web comics is how many of them have no idea that someone actually reads their work. You have to admire the dedication to the art these people have, to devote so much time and effort into something they love, not for the sake of money or fame, but merely for the passion to do it. The latest example of this I stumbled upon was from A New York based artist that creates two comics which I found thoroughly entertaining.

The Feloran Chronicles and Twilight Trust are written and illustrated by Matt Knabb and offer some great sci-fi/fantasy stories for you to enjoy. The Feloran Chronicles detail the stories of warriors that exist on a distant planet (Felora) as they battle and defend their world from minions of a long dead demon. The vibrant colors used on top of a black background give the comic a looming appearance, similar to the look and feel of the artwork created for Batman; The Animated Series. Twilight Trust is done with  a humorous twist and details the adventures of two supernatural investigators, Douglas and Pyotr, as they encounter monsters, mysteries and an enigmatic girl in the middle of it all. In contrast to The Feloran Chronicles, Knabb creates Twilight in basic black and white (except for his rich colored cover art) that gives the work a look and feel more closely associated with manga – another great read that keeps Matt very busy jumping back and forth between the two story lines.

Both comics are hand drawn and inked, then finished off with color in Photoshop. Knabb has a stockpile of the Feloran saga drawn and ready to be colored and posted which should keep him busy – but no, not quite busy enough! He tells me there are plans to work on a full color prequel, “The History of Daemon Ra” while keeping up with new pages of Feloran and Twilight. Take the time to check out these two great comics and although Matt, like so many of us comic artists, do it for the love of the craft, take the time and let him know how much his work is appreciated. A few words is motivation enough to keep us all going.
